[dropcap]W[/dropcap]hile the inshore waters are still relatively cool, the longer days and fewer cool fronts reaching Bimini will heat up the inshore waters quickly as we head into April and May. With warmer air temperatures, warmer water and calmer winds, this is the perfect time of year to fish Bimini’s world class flats. As is typical for this time of year, bonefish schools will become smaller and the fish will tend to be larger averaging in the 8- to 10-pound range. They will be spending more and more time on the flats rather than the deeper water and sight-fishing will become much easier as you will often see them “tailing”. Crab and shrimp are my preferred baits, as well as my “Special Bonefish Ebbie Flies”. There are plenty of permit around with good size as well. Lately, it has not been uncommon to land a dozen or more fish per trip. The nearshore fishing will be productive for trigger fish, yellowtail and lane snapper, as well as muttons. Everyone is also looking forward to the re-opening of Nassau grouper season. See you in Bimini soon!
