Things are really jumping on the islands of Bimini and that includes the fishing!
It is noticeable now that the days are getting shorter and although the air temperatures are still warm, the surrounding waters of the Bimini flats should begin to cool. This means that you will start to see more singles and doubles cruising further out onto the flats. You will definitely see more fish tailing than over the last couple of months. This is a sight-fisherman’s dream! Although the schools of fish will be smaller, there will be plenty of them.
When on the flats, remember that there are plenty of permit, tarpon, barracuda and jacks around as well. Also remember to fish the edges near the creeks leading into the mangroves. Running water is cooler and the fish will be a little deeper. Live bait, particularly crabs and shrimp, will be best. Artificials and flies that mimic the real thing are perfect.
The muttonfish bite has been strong. Nearshore activity includes snapper of all variety, grouper, triggerfish and more.
There is lots to do in Bimini! We hope to see you soon.
