Yes, redfish spawning occurs in the Mosquito Lagoon, too, and the deep waters of Tiger Basin is a known breeding area, at least by our local marine biologists. It seems as our local fishing community ignores this fact and concentrates their efforts on the Indian River Lagoon. Brevard EditionAug 26th, 2013
The keyboard is silent. Its like a newsroom with no news. July-August summer shrimping was NOT fair to us Central Floridians, and our summer chase is late. In 2012, anglers were squealing with buckets full of delight around the first week of July. Brevard - Capt LeenogaAug 26th, 2013
Well summer is slowly fading away and so are the summer fish. I look for the waters to start cooling off a few degrees and that should bring the migrating fish back south. I would start looking for the cobia and sailfish to start moving south even though we have had a very strong bite on them all summer long. Brevard - Capt Douglas KaskaAug 26th, 2013
Temperature of the Banana River Lagoon will dictate what the fish are going to do this month. Last year the water temperatures soared into the lower 90 degree range during the first two weeks of the month. This pushed the majority of the redfish and trout off the flats and into the deeper residential canals where the water was slightly cooler. captjimrossAug 26th, 2013
The fall mullet run should start around the first week of the month in conjunction with the new moon that is due on the 5th. This should get the mullet moving along the beaches and holding near troughs by the tip of Cape Canaveral and also near the jetties at the entrance of the Port. captjimrossAug 26th, 2013
The redfish breeding season is typically most active in September and October. Some fish will get an earlier start while some will linger into November. There are no hard and fast rules as to exactly when, where or how often an active spawn will take place. It is common belief that New Moon and Full Moon phases dictate the most activity. I personally believe this to be true even in our land-locked and non-tidal area.Brevard EditionAug 26th, 2013
Those who have frequented the lagoon shallows over the end of August and through the end of this month will have noticed change in redfish daily activities.Capt. AlexAug 26th, 2013
It was a flat calm day out on the Lagoons on Tuesday. The Mosquito, Banana River, and Indian River were all glass. Top water plugs with minimal rattle are performing very well. Small prop baits worked very slowly tend to be working well. Both of these are working well in the shallower flats.captjimrossAug 1st, 2013
A variety of species are available to anglers fishing the Atlantic Ocean outside of the Port Canaveral area this month. Flounder will strike finger mullet and mud minnows rigged on sliding sinker rigs or HookUp jig heads near wrecks and buoys. Bluefish, jack, and mangrove snapper are other species that anglers will find near these structures. captjimrossJul 27th, 2013
