CEDAR KEY PADDLING

CEDAR KEY PADDLING

Hello everybody! November could very well be my favorite month of the year.  The air is cooling now, and all of our friends from the north are coming in droves, to escape the absolutely freezing temperatures that would render me lifeless, if I had to live in them.  Thanksgiving is also my favorite holiday of the year.  Great food, and you don’t have to swap presents that a lot of us can’t afford to buy in the first place! So many things to be thankful for again this time of year. Our fishing charters have been doing really well with the redfish and trout, and with dropping water temps, we get to start adding sheepshead into our tool belt.  Oysters and fiddlers are your go-to baits, and sometimes a piece of shrimp.  If there is at least 4 feet of water on a pole that is covered with barnacles, it’s a good place to try.  Bring something like a shovel or hole to scrap the barnacles really good, and drop your bait down beside the pole.  Their bite is very soft, so make sure you use light rods so you can have a shot at seeing the little wiggle they give the tip.  When you get one on, force that baby away from the poles so it won’t break you off and have a net! These sheepshead are a lot of fun to catch, and they are delicious! Always a pleasure seeing you when you stop in the shop, and always take a kid fishing!
