Haddrell’s Point (843-881-3644) reports that massive amounts of rainfall have affected the inshore fishery recently, and with all the freshwater runoff it’s a good idea to target inshore species closer to the inlets and ocean due to lower salinity levels.
Trout: Good. Haddrell’s reports that trout are still eating live shrimp and minnows fished under a popping float along shell rakes near the inlets in 3-6ft of water. The VuDu Shrimp has been a good artificial lure choice.
Flounder: Good. Haddrell’s reports that flounder catches have been very solid using live minnows and live mullet around the edges of rock piles and creek mouths. Zman PaddlerZ have also been working.
Spottail Bass: Good. Haddrell’s reports that redfish are still very structure oriented around low tide, and on higher tides they are tailing well in the grass. Bull reds are being caught around the jetties and inlets.
Tarpon: Good. Haddrell’s reports that tarpon have finally started to show themselves in good numbers around the inlets, with large mullet and menhaden being the baits of choice.
Folly Beach Pier (843-588-3474) reports that fishing off the pier has been strong. Good numbers of 2-4 pound Spanish mackerel have been caught and lots of 2-5 pound black drum are being landed. Whiting, baby pompano and very occasional king mackerel are also being caught.
Offshore: Haddrell’s Point reports that the sailfish bite is pretty good in 400-800 feet of water. A few dolphin are still hanging around in 110-250 feet of water and a few big wahoo have been caught. Bottom fishing continues to produce solid numbers of big black sea bass in 60-100 feet of water as well as good numbers of grouper and triggerfish at the same depths.
