This Cobia season has been awesome. From the fish in Port Royal to nearshore here in Charleston, the amount of fish seen and caught has been amazing. Best day we had was five fish landed, and have fin clipped 38 to this point of the season. For the Cobia I have been using a good mix of artificials including DOA’s swimming mullet, Hogy flounder, Hogy 10″ eel, and standard bucktails. Fly wise I have been using mostly whistlers in yellow and white with a little red. You also can’t go wrong with a live eel or a big menhaden. The nearshore reefs here in Charleston and live bottom have been the most productive places for me to fish this year. The fish have been hanging in these areas since early May and continue to do so. Deep jigging as well as sight casting have both proved effective. With the bulk of the migration passing by us already, we should still have a few more weeks of productive fishing for the Cobia.
