The cool temps are not likely to make much of an impact on fish habits this month. Even if we do get unseasonably cool temps, it will take several days of it to change their habits. Bass will still be taking advantage of thick grass during the day and prowling open areas at night. This means that the same summer tactics that have worked for you thus far will continue to work…probably into October as well.

As we deal with the extended periods of high water temps, bass will often be looking for a real easy meal. One of my favorites is the Rapala F-13 Floating Minnow. Worked slowly along grass edges on days with light winds can be deadly. Usually this technique is only effective early and late in the day or on cloudy days. Once the sun gets up, shift gears.

One of the most effective techniques will continue to be a simple Texas-rigged worm. Rig with as light of a weight as you can get away with when dragging it through thick grass and grass pockets. If targeting the deeper wood banks use a heavier weight but remember to work it slowly. With all the recent rain, the lake will probably still be stained in many areas and I prefer to use the darker colors like this one in backatya or junebug. If the water is clear use green pumpkin or watermelon seed and lighter lines like 15 lb. test fluorocarbon.

Good fishing and God bless.
