The dominant easterly winds bring a breezy relief to summer’s seasonal heat. The water has warmed up comfortably to over 80 degrees and most divers are electing to dive in a shorty or just plain bathing suits. It is summer and as they do every year, juvenile silversides are populating the reef. The most spectacular congregations are around the deep swim-through of our solid reef dive sites: Blair House, Lady of Lucaya, Plate Reef, and the Caves. Approaching the area is like looking at an optical illusion and the reef seems to move and change shape. These clouds of silversides attract a variety of predators and the sites are busy with grouper, snapper, jack and eels.

To enhance the dive experience, we recommend you swim through the clouds of these little guys and enjoy the busy hunting, but we also recommend caution on where you position your body due to the numerous lionfish present at the same feeding grounds. Present in high numbers, we are still trying to remove them. If you are interested in assisting us with removing this invasive species, let us know and we can assist. They make for a good eating so in addition to helping reduce the numbers of this invasive species you will enjoy some great tasty treats!
