In from Capt. NayNay–The crew aboard MISS ALEXIS (homeport North Palm Beach) brought in a nice grouper when fishing out of Port Lucaya over the Memorial Day weekend. In the photo are Louann Agrusa, Tony Agrusa, Capt. Steve Carswell, and Jillian Carswell.

It’s tuna time here on Grand Bahama! The John Wilfong party fished recently out of Blue Marlin Cove Resort and Marina for a week and found tuna just to the south of the resort. Predictions are the “fins” are staying for the month of June. The fish ranged between 45 and 65 pounds. The Wilfong’s brought their 38’ Donzi down from Port Canaveral, Florida and hail from Apopka, Florida. Glad you came to Grand Bahama Island to enjoy our great fishing!

Wahoo fishing has slowed down but the dolphin are filling in and the Reel Wet had plenty of action during their week on island. The other news is yellowfin are being caught on the night chunk in the canyon off Lucaya. Aron Long, owner of Longs Marine in Freeport, has been chunking off Lucaya and landing plenty of 40 to 60 pounders. Using live bait while chunking will produce much more action. Live bait is available year round in the canal system. Getting there early in the morning with a good cast net will fill your live well. A tactic that has been successful on mahi-mahi has been trolling rigged squid. My friend Capt. Eric Glaff landed a 58 pound dolphin 20 miles off West End and similar big catches have been showing up recently.

The weather is moving into the summer “calm” and it’s time to get out of the South Florida boat traffic and enjoy some limin’ time in the Bahamas sunshine!
