Hello readers, it’s great to be back on the water and back to business here in Port Saint Joe and Indian Pass. Hurricane Michael has rearranged a few things around here and maybe slowed us down, but it did not break our spirits or run us away.

I must say a huge “thank you” to all those who either by sending donations and/or physical labor helped this community come back. We could not have done it without you guys!

Now, for the fishing in March, water temps are still cool this time of year and fish will tend to be a bit deeper and/or looking for freshwater outflows. Trout and reds can be found in the intracoastal waterway (canal) near structure or on ledges. You can also find them feeding in the mouth of the canal. Currents here are swift, so bottom rigs with 2- to 3-oz lead sinkers, 2/0 circle hooks and live shrimp work great.

Sheepshead are great this time of year as they begin their spawning routines; target structures in 15- to 25 feet of water. Rocks, pilings, buoys, and channel markers are great places to focus on. Use bottom rigs with 1 ounce sinkers, 25 pound fluorocarbon leader and 1/0 2X VMC circle hooks. Either small live shrimp or pieces of fresh shrimp work best, and/or fiddler crabs.

Get out and enjoy the water folks, take advantage of this special place, but respect it.
