Lake Talquin has been fishing very well for both bass and bream.

With water temperatures well into the 80’s, reaching mid 90’s some days current will play a big role. Most bass are caught this time of year fishing main lake and river channel ledges because there is substantial current in those areas. Current alone won’t bring bass to a spot, but it does factor in when catching counts. First, you must find the bass on the ledges. Use a decent bottom machine, watch for balls of bait and look for fish underneath. The more time you spend on the water the easier this becomes. A couple of lessons from me with today’s new echo finders and you’ll be able to almost identify the species themselves. Once located, the favorite methods for catching them are Carolina-rigged soft plastic worms or lizards and a crankbait; one that dives deep enough to get to the bass. The last of my favorites is a Texas-rigged worm or jig. We talk about all these techniques throughout the year and now is the time to try them if you haven’t already. Once the sun comes up, if you’re not using these techniques, chances are you’re not catching any fish.

If it’s bream you’re looking for you’ll want to fish the moon phases, full and new. Sandy banks on the main lake and deeper creeks are where you’ll find the bigger beds and most fish. Trees that overhang and shade these areas can be winners too. Crickets or worms are the only thing you’ll need for bait. Use a number 6 or 8 hook for the small ones and a 2 or 4 for the bigger ones.

Good luck and stay cool!!!
