The pompano bite in the Indian River has tapered off but it should continue to improve around the causeways and the spoil islands in the Indian River Lagoon and Banana River. The pompano should stick around through April. Jig the shorelines around the spoil islands and under the bridge with Doc’s Goofy jigs for the best action.

The snapper, Black drum and sheephead will be plentiful in April around the docks and the islands with any structure. Live shrimp and fiddler crabs are the key, however the snapper will hit Trigger X shrimp also. You may even get lucky and get a juvenile Gag grouper fishing the structure.

The water is extremely clean in the Banana River and the Indian River and the sight fishing for trout and redfish will be dependent on if you can find schools of bait. If you find some schools of bait, you should be able to find some good trout and reds. The finger mullet schools should get bigger and will attract more gamefish. Topwater action will improve and anglers willing to put in their time will be rewarded with big reds as well as some big trout and maybe a few snook. Try a Rapala Skitterwalk in the trout or redfish patterns for some good topwater action. Over slot reds be hungry and the best bait is chunks or ladyfish or mullet.

Crane creek and Turkey Creek have some small trout and small redfish as well as some sharks and Juvenile tarpon. While the Juvenile tarpon are there, you will have to be persistent to get them to eat. Topwater baits like the Skitterwalk and Storm Chug Bug will get some bites as well as the TriggerX Minnow. Jacks, sharks and ladyfish will all be roaming the creeks looking for a quick meal. Catch a few ladyfish and chunk them up and I am sure you can find a shark that is willing to eat.
