Gulf Of Mexico Mourns The Death of Dr. Bob Shipp
Long-time Coastal Angler columnist and Gulf of Mexico fisheries guru, Dr. Bob Shipp, passed away last week at the age of 81. Among many other things, he was a voice of common sense on the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council for 27 years. His ideas on fisheries management often flew in the face of the federal bureaucracy’s mandates. In the end, it turned out that Dr. Shipp was correct. Bill Dance Giant Bass Open events will be held at five of Tennessee’s best bass lakes in 2024, and the series will culminate with a championship tournament with a date and location to be determined. The long-awaited first stop on this year’s circuit is Feb. 10-11 at Pickwick Landing State Park on Pickwick Lake.
Record Peacock On The Fly
Here’s a very nice fly-caught speckled peacock that was recently added to the IGFA record book. Pamela Wendhausen Salles caught the 19-pound, 4-ounce fish on the Rio Marie in Brazil after it crushed the baitfish pattern she was fishing on Sept. 9.
