Alabama Grander Is A Gulf Record!

A Gulf Coast grander caught Oct. 18 is the largest blue marlin ever caught in the Gulf of Mexico. The 1,145.6-pound monster was weighed at the docks of the Mobile Big Game Fishing Club and absolutely smashed the Alabama state record of 851.9 pounds. It also tops the Gulf-wide record of 1,054 pounds!

More Than 30K Lionfish Speared In 2023 Challenge

With 281 participants embarking on 917 trips, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission’s (FWC) annual four-month tournament removed 30,494 lionfish from Florida waters. It was a record-breaking year for participation, nearly doubling the program’s previous high. The total number of lionfish removed was also a new record and beat last year’s numbers by nearly 5,000 fish.

More Bad News for Chesapeake Stripers

It was another bad year for striped bass reproduction in Chesapeake Bay. Maryland released results from its annual juvenile striped bass survey, and the numbers were well below average, continuing a streak of poor reproductive years going back to 2019.
