Everyone is excited about the possibilities that can be found in and around the Port Canaveral area this month. Anglers are able to catch snook, tripletail, redfish, sheepshead, black drum, pompano and a variety of medium-to-large sharks. Let’s keep things simple and look and the first five species listed.
Most can be caught on a medium-sized live shrimp on a sliding sinker rig or 1/4-ounce jig head. The snook can get a little picky, so a live baitfish like a croaker, menhaden, mullet or pinfish can often change their minds. Fish the jetty rocks for the snook, redfish, sheepshead and black drum. Pompano usually prefer to cruise the second sand bar or cleaner areas of water outside of the surf break along the beach.
