Publisher’s Note

We are psyched, again. This local issue of Coastal Angler Magazine Long Island contains so much great edit, new ads, and more! Thanks to you, our readers and advertisers who are driving this growth.

The increase in advertisers has allowed us to bring on Long island’s own Tom Schlichter as a featured writer. You will find 2 new stories each month, written expressly for Coastal Angler readers, that you will not find elsewhere. Welcome aboard to one of Long Island’s most loved outdoor enthusiast writers! He joins Zach Harvey, noted Master of the Fish-geist, and our own Tommy Kampa who spends his days on the sound, and shares the inside information exclusively with our readers.

And tournament season is here –Coastal Angler Magazines in the Northeast are Proud to be the official media partner of the Third Annual Pabst Blue Ribbon Striped Bass-Bluefish – Fluke Tournament being held in Long Island, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut! The tournament runs from May 15 – October so there is plenty of time to land that prize winning fish. Register today at www.pbrfishing. com and get your free swag.

If you’re hankering for Fluke don’t miss the largest fluke tourney in the country, the aptly named “Fluke Til Ya Puke” tournament in Rhode Island, just come on over for a great tournament with great purses and fun. Bring the family and enjoy, spend the night in beautiful South County Rhode Island, it’s a great road trip.

And July brings the great shark tournaments to the region – check out Star Island, as well as the Monster Shark Tournament which moved from Oaks Bluffs to Newport last year, running July 16 – 18. This nationally recognized event, in memory of the late Steven James, will be a blast. With the $20,000 purse and more (not to mention the Calcutta which earned the winners an additional $51,000 last year) it is worth the trip.

And remember our own great sharking events at Star Island and Montauk Boat Basin – more to come on them next month.
