Sebastian Inlet Fishing Report: 2/21/14

The water has warmed considerably over the last two weeks. The bite is still strong in the inlet and just outside the inlet for Bluefish, Spanish Mackerel and Jack Crevalle and the bite for Pompano has slowed down a bit. Best baits have been Trigger X paddle tail baits and Doc’s Goofy jigs. A few small We have been using the goofy jigs targeting pompano and the other species like them as well. The nighttime bite in the inlet is still good for Redfish, Snook as well as bluefish and Jack Crevalle and a few sharks. The Snook and Reds are hitting bucktails on outgoing tide and a few anglers have been getting the snook on live shrimp rigged on a 5/0 VMC circle hook and 40lb Fluorocarbon leader.

Cobia are showing up nearshore reefs and following the rays migrating north. The triggerfish and snapper bite has been pretty good on the nearshore reefs when the weather will let us get out.

The spoil islands in the lagoon have been good for trout jacks and ladyfish. Best baits for us have been the Twitchin Rap in silver and the Mirrolure lil Jon rigged on a 1/4oz VMC jighead working the edges of the bars and shallow areas with bait pods. Big snook are roaming a few of the shallow bars along the islands, live mullet is your best choice of bait.
