Kingfish, that’s what I am talking about! This is the time of year for the kings to be moving in close to shore for the bait fish in the water. It’s time to get the stinger rigs ready and plenty of wire leaders. Make sure your reels have plenty of line on them, if not, replace it because you never can tell when that 60lb king is going to take the bait.
October is here and so is the cooler weather. The fish are going to be moving out to deeper waters so you are going to travel further to find game fish. Continue to look for weed lines and other floating debris that the storms have brought in closer to shore.
The bottom fishing bite has been fantastic and I look for that to continue through November. Triggerfish and grouper are being caught.
The fall months tend to bring different species to life in the deeper waters, always look for birds flying in patterns and look for activity on the surface (splashing water, birds on the surface) these are great indicators of fish in the area. This is the time for the sailfish to become very active and we all know how that fight is on light tackle.
Cobia are still around and are being caught free swimming or on the wrecks and reefs sites between Sebastian Inlet and Port Canaveral. They are being taken in the 50- 80 foot mark and along the shore line.
The Big jacks are aggressively attacking top water plugs, this is some hard fast fun when nothing else is around. The bluefish are making the trip south so plenty of action is on
hand with them.
Moving closer to the beaches the tarpon bite has been hit or miss at times, when you do find them be patient as they will bite your bait and then its game on not ”fish on”.
The sharks are going to be a problem again this month as the mullet run is still going on. With cooler waters the sharks will be here and you will catch plenty of them before you get your prize fish. Sharks are a great fighting fish and will test your strength and stamina.
