The cero and Spanish mackerel schools are so intense in August it is difficult to catch anything else along the Wall. If you enjoy mackerel fishing, which I prefer to do by trolling a decent size spinning rod, just run about 6.5 knots right along the drop off and watch the fish box fill up. You will get at least a wahoo or two in between mackerel schools as a bonus. If you are targeting the nice yellowfin schools, marlin, or sailfish in August, its helps to get at least a 100 yards or more off the wall, and watch for the birds. The schools of mutton snapper have diminished in numbers, but the average size of each fish is 15l pounds and up.
