IGFA Expands Release-Based Records

If you fly fish and would like to be a world record holder, right now is a very good time to go catch one. The International Game Fish Association (IGFA) recently announced the addition of a fly-fishing category for its All-Tackle Length record program, a record program that requires the potential record catch to be released alive.

Northwest of Tulsa, Oklahoma’s Keystone Lake is a hotspot for record-breaking paddlefish. On June 22, angler Grant Rader, of Wichita, Kansas, landed a new world record for the species. He caught the 164-pound beast on his 18th birthday.

Seven Releases 10 Billfish to Earn $409,500 in 18th Annual Virginia Beach Billfish Tournament

Capitalizing on a solid Friday showing, Seven sealed the deal Saturday and claimed the championship trophy in the 2021 Virginia Beach Billfish Tournament. The 62 Bayliss, owned by Gardner Britt Jr, of Fairfax, Virginia, and run by Capt. Jimmy Hardee, released nine white marlin and one sailfish for an overall score of 700 points.

Night Fishing In The Dog Days

Late summer brings some of the most challenging conditions of the year to catch bass. The conditions are harsh on the fish as well as on the angler. However, catching fish in the middle of August is not impossible. My recommendation for filling livewells is not to change location, but to change the time you fish. Night fishing is a great option.
