Shrimp Report: Sept. 2014

It is September already and my ears are still ringing from all the excitement from Daytona Beach to Jacksonville. The summer shrimp emerged out of the mud waking up the spirit that died off from the skunk last season.Aug 25th, 2014

Shrimp Report: August 2014

Hot temperatures and afternoon rains make this 2014 summer no different than any other season. However, the white shrimp are a no show for the most part in Volusia and Flagler CountyJul 30th, 2014

Central Florida Shrimp Report: July 2014

Summer is upon us and winter shrimping is merely a topic of reminiscing over a cold beer. Volusia County in Oak Hill is still giving up shrimp albeit mixed sizes, its sobering to see so many boats still on the river chasing. North Brevard and Titusville pier have been torture, frustration and punishing for those trying to compare last years smack down to where they stand in this moment. Jun 28th, 2014

Brevard Shrimp Report: May 2014

We are in the throes of what started as a slow shrimping season, and we are taking the football into the 2014 end zone. Something lit a match in Oak Hill and this area caught fire mid-March and burned strong gifting 5 gallon buckets to most everyone no matter how late the tide ran. The urgency to cash in March/April brought many boats on the river forcing the barges to call the Coast Guard to land in our space. Why? Because there are boaters that feel they do not need to move when a barge comes through. Guess what? A barge grounded itself on a sandbar to avoid hitting a small craft and it took this captain 30 minutes to get off the sand bar. May 1st, 2014

Brevard Shrimp Report: April 2014

Shrimping season is in full swing. The sounds of 5 gallon buckets echo from Titusville to Oak Hill, Florida. Seems Volusia County has been more kind and shows mercy spiting a minimum of 1-2 gallons on any given night. Titusville on the other hand remains moody in February/March and is starting to show some excitement from the Titusville pier all the way to Haulover Canal. Bottom line - when it comes to Brevard County, those crickets are going to run when they feel like it. Mar 24th, 2014

Shrimp Report: March 2014

Group hug. The morale has hit an all-time low back in January. Snap out of it, we are right where we should be for this time of year.Feb 25th, 2014

Shrimp Report: February 2014

OMG! January has gone epic in Oak Hill. If you can believe this, some members of the Academy already filled their freezer and using the remaining season to be selective. Good grief, I have yet to drown some mono and folks are already topping off their tanks.Feb 1st, 2014

Shrimp Report: December 2013

We are in December now and I would be lying to you if I did not admit there is some shrimp activity in the Oak Hill area.Nov 27th, 2013

Shirmp Report: Nov 2013

The summer shrimp run was a bust from Central Florida all the way to North East, Florida. Nothing more to talk about, we need to get this memory behind us. This is the time to be thinking about your shrimping gear and what you need for the 2013-2014 season officially starting 1 Nov. The most asked question at the beginning of the season involves equipment choices. So let's get this discussion out of the way. The #1 most advanced shrimp light that went viral last season is the "MacDaddy" shrimp light series. Personally, my favorite model is the GW 60/60 which means it has 60 LED's of white and 60 LED's of green. You can turn on either color or engage both strips at the same time for a 120 LED burn (a "green white") and it is easy on the eyes. This light has set the bar and has become the light "copied" by other local companies as recent as last month. Don't be fooled, if the light does NOT have an in-line fuse & brass battery terminal clips, its a imitation MacDaddy light. You can go to marker69.com and read all the specs and see the entire product line, costs range $115 to $150. Oct 25th, 2013
