I keep hearing that the surf fishing is not as good as it was in years past on our beaches. Well the last part of January and into February that has not been my experience. Brevard - John DetmerFeb 2nd, 2014
Happy New Year 2014 and welcome to the outstanding surf fishing that the New Year offers on our Space Coast Beaches. This is the time of the year that brings new challenges to the surf angler in the form of cold fronts and northeast winds.Brevard - John DetmerDec 27th, 2013
Happy Holidays from the beach front. November provided a taste of what is on the menu for surf anglers this winter. The transitional period (October/November) is marked by stronger northeast winds, rough seas, cooling water temperatures and early mornings in the 60 degree range.Brevard - John DetmerNov 25th, 2013
October lived up to all the hype and excitement for great surf fishing. Cocoa Beach, Satellite Beach, Melbourne Beach and South had all the action any surf angler could ask for and then more. A good number of mornings we stood on the crossover and watched sharks, tarpon, jacks and other finned species feeding on threadfin herring, menhaden and finger mullet as they streamed past our location. The neighbor hooked up twice on big tarpon while surf fishing from the beach before he started using his kayak to chase them down. He estimated his biggest tarpon at 80 to 90 pounds, now thatâs a big fish! Sorry but, once again I am sounding like a broken record, telling family, friends and clientsâ how great the fishing is year round on the Brevard County Beaches and October is the month that says it all. Brevard - John DetmerOct 25th, 2013
Welcome to October and the transitional period between the summer and fall/winter surf fishing seasons. September witnessed the annual opening of the snook season and we were off to the races.Brevard - John DetmerSep 26th, 2013
September 1st is the annual opening of Snook Season and the surf anglerâs best shot of taking a legal snook home for dinner. With the opening of the season and the observed amount of bait fish in the surf, this is a âcanât missâ opportunity.Brevard - John DetmerAug 26th, 2013
July was a blistering hot month for me and I tried to fish only the early (6-10am) mornings. I would say we had expectable fishing from all reports. Sharks, bull whiting, sheepshead and croakers were in the surf. Mornings broke on calm seas, blue water, light winds and humidity in the high double digits. All in all, just what you would expect on our Brevard County Beaches at this time of the year.Brevard - John DetmerJul 26th, 2013
Canaveral National Seashore at Playalinda Beach to Cocoa Beach and on down to Sebastian Inlet were all experiencing the start of the summer surf fishing season. Dotting this transitional time frame was our first tropical storm Andrea which rolled thru the northern part of the state in early June.Brevard - John DetmerJul 1st, 2013
Cocoa Beach to Melbourne Beach Surf Anglers are reporting great catches. Reds, black drum, whiting, ladyfish and Sharks are close … Brevard - John DetmerMay 31st, 2013
