June on the Lagoon; it’s a great time of year. There are still plenty shrimp living on the flats, the pinfish and pigfish are the right size to be useful and the finger mullet population is about to explode. If this isn’t enough good news let me add this; water clarity is fantastic!
Clean water of the past few months have allowed a “little” grass regeneration in “some” areas. While the growth is very sparse it gives me hope for an eventual recovery. As is always the case, time will tell.
We’ve been experiencing an epic spotted seatrout bite lately and I expect this to continue in June. Top water plugs and five inch jerk shads are giving my people their best catches. If it’s too grassy for treble hooks or you have difficulty “walking the dog” try a Z-Man Pop Shadz rigged on a weedless bass worm hook. They’re easy to pop and plop along the surface, they’re nearly weed free and they catch fish!
Redfish are roaming quite a bit often moving with changes in wind direction. The good news is once you find them they’re pretty aggressive. EZ Shrimpz on light jigheads or three inch Minnowz are working very well.
