It’s no secret really big stripers patrol the eastern end of Long Island Sound. Just ask Greg Myerson; he found the biggest one in August of 2012 – the IGFA world record, which weighed 81 pounds 14 ounces! Lucky catch? Hardly. Myerson, 50, of Wallingford, Connecticut, has targeted big bass in these waters since childhood. Over last decade he’s hauled in numerous 50- and 60-pounders, plus a 73-pound behemoth, in addition to the top prize.

Hawaii Team Wins Million Dollar Purse In Blue Marlin World Cup

A fleet of 152 boats competed around the globe on July 4 in the 2023 edition of the single-day Blue Marlin World Cup. At stake was a record purse of $1.241 million in combined prize money. After a lengthy day of fishing, Apex, a 54-foot Donnie Caison custom sportfisher based in Kona, Hawaii, emerged as the winner to earn the winner-take-all jackpot.

Florida Slashes AJ Season In State Waters

At its July meeting, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) issued an executive order to close recreational harvest of greater amberjack in state waters of the Gulf of Mexico. The season, which previously ran from Aug. 1 through Oct. 31, has been cut to just 25 days from Aug. 1 through Aug. 25. The shortened season is consistent with the Gulf federal season. During the open season, anglers may keep one amberjack per person, with a minimum length of 34 inches fork length.
