Legend Flip Pallot Passes

The Fishing World lost one of its heroes as Flip Pallot passed away on August 26th, 2025. Flip inspired generations of anglers to pursue excellence and cherish the wonders and beauty of nature. His TV show “Walkers Cay Chronicles” helped introduce the world to sportfishing. Author, inventor, spokesperson and industry consultant, Flip was truly a Renaissance Man. Throughout his storied career Flip remained humble and approachable, making each of us feel appreciated and worthy. He was truly a down-to-earth celebrity. Volumes could be written about his influence on the Outdoor Industry and the Iconic brands that his influence helped to create/develop. His broad smile and warm handshake will be missed, but his legend will live on.Aug 28th, 2025

Kentucky Lake: The Most Diverse Bass Lake You May Ever Fish

Much has been written about the best bass lakes in the country and they all include one of the biggest and most diverse, Kentucky Lake. Spanning from Kentucky through the entire state of Tennessee, this lake has it all, from accessibility of ramps to tremendous fishing to small towns dotting the shorelines with charm and hospitality. It is truly an outdoorsman’s paradise and a great family retreat. Oct 22nd, 2012

Tiny Tuna at the Hooter off of Martha’s Vineyard

It was late August and I still remember the phone call like it was yesterday. My pal Capt. Corey Pietraszek called me up with an invite to fish the following day. Corey runs Plug n’ Play Charter Group, and since both of us are usually very busy and rarely have free time to get out on the water together I readily accepted the offer, especially since the plan was to target the bonito that had been giving his charter customers their money’s worth in the preceding few days.Oct 22nd, 2012

Kayaking Adventure in the Chandeleur Islands

The deep rumble of the engines aboard the Double Trouble made me realize that one of my long-time kayak fishing dreams was finally coming true. We were headed out for two days of kayak fishing at the Chandeleur Islands. Located 35 miles off the coast of Biloxi, Mississippi, this fast disappearing chain of barrier islands has attained an almost mythical reputation for fantastic fishing. Oct 19th, 2012

Hooking Blue Marlin in the Gulf off Venice, Louisiana

If you are saltwater fishing in blue water and live on the Mississippi Gulf Coast there’s two choices. Either you ride or drive to the blue water. Obviously, if the vessel is a sport fisher the choice has been made in advance, but if your boat can be trailered, well then I believe the term is road trip. In most cases, either way, the trip is going to cost about three hours of drive/ride time. Oct 19th, 2012

A Once-in-a-Lifetime Encounter off San Benitos Island

The 22 anglers who headed out aboard Captain Art Taylor’s Searcher out of Fisherman’s Landing for a late-September six-day Penn Fishing University long range adventure found tuna and yellowtail in abundance, along with dorado, and even a “once in a lifetime” encounter with a huge group of sperm whales. The Texas summer surf can spoil a newcomer in a heartbeat and it's what the seasoned surf angler typically awaits each year.

Fish Food and Flies

Fly anglers are as attracted to their flies as fish are, and in some cases, can be even more attracted to them than the fish. There are a wide variety of flies available for anglers, and selecting from the array can be complicated. There are different colors, sizes, and materials. There are weighted flies and unweighted flies. So, what are the best flies? The simple answer is: it depends.

Spring Striped Bass Run the Hudson River

New York’s Hudson River could hardly be considered pristine on its lower end. That doesn’t seem to bother the striped bass.

Bucket List: Bow River Bullets

Without a doubt, Alberta, Canada’s Bow River is a world-class trout fishery. Glacier-fed and flowing more than 350 miles from the Canadian Rockies through the foothills and prairies of Alberta, it is big and scenic by the time it reaches the 50-mile section southeast of Calgary that author Jim McLennan called “the Blue Ribbon Bow.” It is here in this blue ribbon stretch that anglers flock to get in on some of the best brown and rainbow trout fishing in the world.

Endless Fishing Opportunities in Marathon

Marathon, the very heart of the Florida Keys, offers fishing options as vast as the crystal blue waters that surround the islands.

Under The Sea – Slings and Polearms

There’s a retro-movement taking place—a trend toward primitive hunting gear. Slings and polespears are used in places that do not allow trigger mechanisms.
