Flukin’, Sharkin’, Eatin’, Releasin’…..
We are psyched, again. Waters are warming, boats are in the water and after a weird winter/spring we are finally gearing up for summer.
Tournament season is here –June 1 starts the season with a bang! The tournament will run June – August this year get in there and land that prize winning sh. Register today at www.pbrfishing.com and get your free swag.
If you’re hankering for Fluke don’t miss the coolest fluke tourney in the country, the aptly named “Fluke Til Ya Puke” tournament in South Kingstown, Rhode Island on June 18. Help usher in Father’s Day by bringing dad down for an afternoon of family fun. FTYP is one of the largest fluke tournaments in the country with huge purses and fun. Bring the family and enjoy the weigh in, the great BBQ, music and a good time!
Gotta give the Rhode Island Saltwater Angler’s Association and their hardworking President Steve Medieros a shout out for their annual “Take a Kid Fishing Day” Which also takes place this month. The charter guys and RISAA volunteers show out in force to provide a wonderful morning of fishing for underprivileged kids.
The fun continues at the end of the month with the 8th annual Doormat Derby, hosted by our friends at Snug Harbor in Wakefield, Rhode Island. Don’t miss their aptly named Golfers’ Award – legal limit non-game fish or other ugly fish are all eligible for this award to “challenged anglers.”
And July brings the great shark tournaments to the region. We are sad to see that the Monster Shark Tournament has fled Newport and melded with the Bedford tourney.
However, this may come as a relief to the nice folks at “save the Bays.” Historically they swam their annual fundraiser across the Bay the same day as the Monster Shark Tournament. We always wondered why local press did not pick that up. The juxtaposition of the two events is a headline writer’s dream….
