Happy Thanksgiving to All!

RI-report

As the weather continues to deteriorate, and we head ever closer to the hard-wired biological kill-switch for fishing in RI waters, we are in the process of overhauling the way we handle our weekly columns with an eye on the winter months. As you’ll see in the forthcoming December issue’s “Fish Focus” column, we aim to continue updating this site every week on Fridays straight through the dark months. But rather than attempting to focus so much on real-time fishing developments in what would very quickly become the Weekly Cod Piece, our idea is to zero in on one micro topic in RI fishing, either by way of a theoretical “case study” we devise for discussion purposes, or a question we might run by our expert sources. The basic hope is that rather than spending four months rattling off box scores for a sagging cod fishery for the benefit our four guys reading, we’ll keep going with relevant in-season-type content through the months when the fishing withdrawals are headed for their seasonal apex. It’s in the winter, after all, when we tend to have the time and inclination to do most of our reading.

Look for a more detailed explanation in the December CAM. In the mean time, we wish you all a safe and happy Thanksgiving. For my part, as I plan to head north of the famed “Tower” that marks the northern borderlands of South County, I’ve thrown three extra boxes of Kleenex in the car to handle the nosebleeds.
