Pabst Blue Ribbon Fishing Tournament

The 3rd Annual Pabst Blue Ribbon Striped Bass, Bluefish and Fluke Tournament kicked off June 1st. The Tournament is open to anglers who fish the waters off Connecticut, Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Long Island. On its first day, four weigh-ins came through the Tournament Office including a 42lb 90z striper caught by Chris Landry in the Boat Division in Long Island Sound. Peter Kosciukiewicz took in a 25lb 5oz striper from the shores of Rhode Island and Howard Ward and his nephew, junior angler Kevin Fasulo also had some luck, weighing in a 6lb 7oz fluke and a 7lb 11oz fluke, respectively. Both Ward and Fasulo caught their fish off Fishers Island.

The Pabst Blue Ribbon Fishing Tournament includes four divisions for anglers: Bass by Boat, by Shore, Bluefish and Fluke with accompanying junior divisions. Additionally, the Evan Metropolous Conservation Award for Catch and Release has returned for 2014. To promote conservation, $5,000 will be awarded at the end of the Tournament, via raffle, to one registered angler who has properly caught, documented and released a striped bass that measures 28 inches or longer during the Tournament.

As of June 11th, 13 fish have been weighed in and 573 anglers have entered the tournament. Other weigh-ins include a 37lb 12oz striper caught off Block Island on June 2nd by Dale Harkin, a 10lb 8oz fluke caught off Block Island on June 2nd by Tom McMahon, and a 26lb 13oz striper caught in the Shore Division on June 5th by BJ Silvia. In addition, Josh Beuth submitted the first Catch & Release entry, a 33 inch striped bass caught in Upper Narragansett Bay on June 4th.

In addition to the $55,000 in guaranteed cash winnings, the Pabst Blue Ribbon Tournament offers many ways to win with the opportunity to take home weekly and monthly prizes. Typhoon Optics is awarding weekly winners in all four divisions their choice of sunglasses for the duration of the Tournament. Other weekly prizes include Swivits environmentally friendly sinkers and Ecotops for all divisions and Flippin’ Out Fluke Rigs for the fluke division. Monthly leader prizes include an 8” fillet knife and sheath from Dexter, Old Harbor Outfitters apparel, Ronz lures, an AD- DYA hook pack, a discount offer from St. Croix, Fishidy apparel and more.

Sea Tow is also offering an extra $2,000 to Tournament registered anglers. Sea Tow members who weigh in the largest fish in each division will have a chance to win $500 via the Sea Tow Calcutta Raffle.

In addition to running one of the largest tournaments in the northeast, Pabst Blue Ribbon is also a proud supporter of the Lions Sight Foundation. Proceeds from the Tournament will help further the Lions Clubs’ efforts to support and improve the lives of the visually impaired public and military veterans throughout Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. These efforts include the Lions’ own fishing tournaments for visually impaired persons. Rhode Island will be hosting its seventh annual tournament on June 22nd and Massachusetts will host its inaugural tournament on June 21st.
