September is turning out to be a blockbuster month for the Rhode Island Marine industry. The Newport Boat Show was abuzz with news of Pete Peterson’s acquisition of Hunt Yachts via Scout Partners, LLC. We had a chance to catch up with Hunt Yachts’ President Peter Van Lancker at the RIMPTA Industry Partners breakfast where he was receiving its prestigious Anchor Award.

We have spent our career in financial publishing – I was with Institutional Investor for 11 Years, Mike with American Banker, and we were both part of the team which launched The Deal Magazine in 1999. In fact, Mike spent 13 years there. We have followed Pete Peterson’s career – even met him a few times at industry events. The official bios will tell you about his distinguished career in government, as the head of Lehman Brothers in the good times, and his highly successful founding Of Blackstone, a PE and investment management firm. It was Blackstone’s IPO which catapulted him into the strata of super wealthy.
With this investment Hunt will be able to grow and reach its potential. We will be profiling Hunt Yachts next month in our new “Spotlight on Rhody Business”, a new section which highlights successful marine operations in RI and their contribution to our economy.

We are thrilled that Pete, and his partner David Howe have decided to add Hunt to their portfolio, along with Hinckley. If you look closely at the photo, you will notice Peter Van Lancker actually wearing a Hinckley hat – now THAT’s something we never thought we would see. Catching up with him after the awards he mentioned that he had enjoyed a drink in the Hinckley tent the night before. It is indeed the dawn of a new partnership. We hear that there may be some changes afoot in terms of inventory which will especially interesting to Coastal Angler readers – will keep you posted.

Another major announcement is the purchase of the Providence Boat Show by RIMTA. RIMTA is dedicated to growing Rhody’s marine trades through advocacy, education and promotion. The Providence Show (scheduled for January 29, 2014) is one of the largest winter boat shows, and the RIMTA team has exciting new ideas to grow the event. Stay tuned for more news on that.

As always, all of this news along with fishing reports, Bragboard, and the fish-geist of Zach Harvey is free to you, courtesy of our small but growing band of loyal advertisers who make this all possible. We cherish this group.  In addition to providing a powerful platform and wrapping their message in high quality edit with great photography, we are providing advertisers and folks who are considering it with access to the wisdom and guidance of Bob McGinnis, President of McGinnis Associates and results-oriented advertising guru.  He has crafted a webinar which will air for Coastal Angler advertisers and prospects to help you make your dollars count with more effective ads which have real impact.  Tell your marketing folks that they should not miss this.  Better yet, if you make these decisions for your business, you should carve out the hour to participate.  It’s not a sales session to spread the glory of advertising in CAM (that’s our job) It’s about insight into making the dollars you decide to spend work harder and achieve the results you need.

There is more to come, especially video (Coastal Angler TV? Seriously. It’s in the works.) Please send us your thoughts, comments, raves, suggestions.  We are having a blast building this brand for Rhode Island anglers, those who love Rhode Island waters and the businesses which depend on it.  Contact us directly at lisad@coastalanglermagazine.com to register for the complimentary webinar on results-based advertising or just to share your thoughts.

Remember to grab those free fishing reports as you head out on the water. Find them at coastalanglermag.com/rhodeisland/report
