An Islamorada Fishing Adventure

Fishing Adventure

Fishing in Islamorada is kind of like being a kid on Christmas morning. As the boat pulls away from the dock, your mind quickly goes through all the possibilities that the day might bring. I recently found myself on just such a trip.

I was asked to product test the Chum Buddy with the owner of the company, Mike Barker. We were joined by Capt. Jimmy Nelson and Luiza Barros of “Extreme Fishing Adventures” to help us put the Chum Buddy to the test.

We headed out to the famous Bud N Mary’s Marina and got on board the “Gimme Jimmy,” a totally rigged out 390 SeaVee Deep-V Hull center console complete with a second station tower and completely covered in really cool and comfortable SeaDek for comfort. We were in good hands with Captain Dave Jones and Jimmy Boone who owns the boat but played the part of first mate for this trip.

A few miles offshore on the ledge, we loaded up the Chum Buddy with sardines. After closing it up and holding it over the side, it only took a few pumps for the internal blade system to begin releasing just the right amount of chum slick into the water.

In just minutes the water was teeming with triggerfish, yellowtail snapper, grouper, tilefish and these amazing blue parrotfish. The day was filled with nonstop action catching what seemed like every species that exists in the Florida Keys. We also caught some monster amberjacks and finished by catching cobia until there was nobody left on the boat that had the energy to fight even one more.
