Women in the Outdoors 9th Annual Event April 25 in Okeechobee

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he Indian River Penwa Huntresses chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) will host its 9th annual Women in the Outdoors event on April 25 at Quail Creek Plantation in Okeechobee, Florida.

Women in the Outdoors events, designed just for women age 13 and older, teach outdoor skills through interactive hands-on education, all emphasizing the importance of wildlife management and the role of hunters in conservation. A partial listing of workshop offerings for the weekend include basic and advanced archery, basic and advanced shotgun/sporting clays, back woods buggy ride, canoeing/kayaking, intermediate fly casting, gator hunting, birding for beginners, cowboy roping, traditional swamp cabbage cooking, fire side cooking, jewelry making, self-defense, duct tape totes, gator hunting and more.

Registration fee is $85 and the event kicks off Friday (April 24) evening with an optional pre-party at Quail Creek featuring Nashville recording artist Tom Jackson. ($25 per person), dinner, silent and live auctions, and gun raffles.

The NWTF is a national nonprofit conservation organization that was founded in 1973 and has worked with wildlife agencies to restore wild turkey populations. Now, NWTF’s volunteers raise funds and work daily to improve critical wildlife habitat, increase access to public hunting land and introduce new people to the outdoors and hunting.
