Choosing a Rod

Fishing rods have come a long way since sneaking out of the garage with your dad’s favorite fiberglass, bright yellow, fishing stick. With the introduction of carbon fiber, along with highly technical corrosion resistant components, the fishing rod industry has exploded into a mind boggling array of choices. While it would be nearly impossible to list all of the rod manufacturers we thought we’d list a few that have had outstanding performance along with some newer innovations. The rods and manufacturers are listed in alphabetical order.

Falcon
Falcon rods are American made and have a loyal following of fresh and saltwater fishermen nationwide. These rods have an amazing strength to sensitivity ratio. The “Falcon Low Rider Salt’ series is definitely the cream of the Falcon crop for inshore saltwater anglers. These rods are sensitive enough to fish the smallest finesse baits but strong enough to handle most anything the coast has to offer. Falcon has also introduced a new series of rods that feature the new split grip design in the Coastal XG series.

T. Allen Rods
Terry Allen, owner of T. Allen Rods has come up with a unique design that has anglers coast to coast buzzing. The new “microwave” design for spinning and casting boast superior accuracy and casting distance. T. Allen Rods have also put their research into a comfortable split grip rod butt. Combining these qualities with rods that are made in array of lengths, applications and quality components, T. Allen Rods are quickly becoming a household name among many serious tournament anglers, both fresh and saltwater.

Temple Fork Outfitters
It would be hard to talk about fishing rods without mentioning Gary Loomis, the founder of G-Loomis fishing rods. Gary has now burst on to the scene with what is described as an affordable line of rods, that doesn’t sacrifice quality. It appears that Gary has hit a home run with Temple Fork Outfitters. TFO has truly done an excellent job of covering all fields of both fresh and saltwater rod applications. Along with spinning and casting rods, TFO has an outstanding line of fly rods as well.
