Publisher’s Note: Oct. 2015

block-island-note

As the 2015 fishing season rolls into the last leg out at Block Island, we want to take a minute to thank you, our readers, for making Coastal Angler Magazine so highly sought after in such a short time! We are fielding dozens of calls for locations to be added to the distribution list. We have a small but growing group of advertisers that tell us we are their most effective print buy in terms of generating leads and business – what more can you ask for?

We spent some great time at Block Island this summer and just couldn’t let go so we are focusing on it throughout both the Long island and Rhode Island editions. Writers Zach Harvey and Tom Schlichter share the passion for Block, and got up close and personal with their stories this month. Zach’s piece on the two Block Island’s will really touch a nerve with all of us who have seen the relentless march of “progress” change the small time family feel and ownership of the places we love. And Tom gives us the news we can use to make the most of any trip to the Block!

We are coming up to our favorite time on Block – that interlude between Labor Day and Columbus Day when the marinas, shops, restaurants are still open and the charter captains are making their last hay of the season before many of them decamp for the south. This is some of the best fishing of the year – don’t miss it! The fish are out there and the weather is gorgeous!

When on Block be sure to touch down at The Salty Dog, right on Front Street, to get both your copy of Coastal Angler and some gear. Chris Hobe designs and sells the baddest fishing apparel out there with his “Fish the World” line – see below. Chris’ shop is the only place on the Island that carries us, but he is our largest distributor in Rhode Island!

Also check in with our friend Chris Willi at Block Island Boatworks. He has been a valuable and steady to Zach’s fishing reports. He did some great writing for us in this section and we’ll be adding him back to our distribution list next year! Thanks also to his wife Jessica at BI Tourism who supported this effort and is such a pleasure to work with! If you miss Block and need a beautiful reminder check out Mike Laptew’s amazing photography pictures of Block at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLXfrGM-MDw.

So as we pack up the fishing reports for the season and start looking toward 2016 planning, we would love to hear from you. What do you want to more more of? Less of in 2016? If you have feedback of any kind – good, bad, irate, overjoyed, overwhelmed, underwhelmed or indifferent – please fire away. You make yourself heard by zapping a quick note to us, signing on to our FaceBook page or Twitter at CoastalAnglerRI.
