Hello,
My just tuned 6 year old son Luke (b-day 9/16), hooked a 35lb White Sea Bass off Redondo Beach, CA, Saturday Morning @11am on Oct. 31, 2015.

A couple weeks ago Pete of “Just Fishing by Pete” (2427 190th St, Redondo Beach, CA 90278 Phone: (310) 376-7035 Pete can confirm) had put together a Shimano 20-50lb rod and used Jigmaster 500 reel with 20lb line for Luke, so he could have his own rig.
Last Friday night, Luke asked me if we could go fishing Saturday and I figured, sure, why not, let’s try out your new rod.
So we headed down to Redondo Beach Sport Fishing (233 N Harbor Dr, Redondo Beach, CA 90277 Phone:(310) 372-2111 – Scott can confirm) and hopped on the 7:30AM “Redondo Special”, with Captain Erick Hobday, 1st Mate Paul and deckhands Abraham and Rusty.
I was also using a 2nd Shimano and used Jigmaster 500 reel with 20lb line with a Tady 45 Scrambled Egg jig, yo-yoing. Luke was using his Shimano / JM500 with a dbl hook high/low set-up and 10oz torpedo with thawed squid heads on both hooks (see: high low dbl hook rig).
In the morning we were catching a bunch of Mackerel, various Rock Fish and some smaller bass, all with the Tady 45 & Luke’s high low set up, primarily using squid.
At 11am, he was getting tired and wanted a break, so I said, hey, let’s do one more and I put (2) squid heads on his hooks and he dropped it down to the bottom and reeled back up 4-5 turns and waited.
I had just dropped my Tady and was running it up when out of the corner of my eye I saw his rod tip dive for the water and the rod was jammed between the boat rail and under his arm pit and we was getting lifted up on his tippy toes screaming “Papa, I think I got one! Papa, I think I got one!” He was going nuts!
Luke had hooked a 35lb White Sea Bass that was taller than he was.
I will let the image tell the story.

Anyway, everyone on the boat was high fiveing Luke and when we got back to the Pier, they next bunch of fisherman waiting for the PM ride were talking about a 6 year old who hooked a 35lb White Sea Bass.
When someone said “Hey, there’s the kid who hooked a 35lb White Sea Bass” and they all started to high five him.
Needless to say…Luke is still grinning from ear-to-ear.

Paul the 1st Mate did something real cool too, he cut out the Otoliths and gave them to Luke as a souvenir.
He has been showing them to everyone and wants to make a neckless of them to wear every time he goes fishing.

Anyway, sorry I got a bit long winded here, everyone at Redondo Sport Fishing, Pete’s and us, his parents of course, are super proud of him.
We dropped by Pete’s yesterday to show him the pictures, and he and his guys were all grinning from ear-to-ear too, he told me to contact you guys as you might feel like it’s worth printing and I know Luke will treasure that for a lifetime.

Thank you for your time!
