TEQUESTA–Beautiful weather and a great venue resulted in a successful day for the MCAC Reef Fund as it hosted its 6th Annual Lionfish Round-Up.
“This was our 2nd year at Jupiter Pointe Marina, and even though we didn’t break any records we, had 29 divers remove 239 Lionfish from our local waters,” said Kathy FitzPatrick, Martin County’s Coastal Engineer. “Diver’s had clear conditions with little current.”
Team Knotty Doggs brought in 102 lionfish to take home the $1,000 award for Most Lionfish by a Team. Most Lionfish by an Individual honors went to Todd Schoppe as well as the smallest and largest fish, taking home checks worth $3000. Schoppe brought in 92 fish with the largest measuring 15.875-inches and the smallest a mere 5-inches.
Those who supported the event by participating or through sponsorship helped raise funds for future artificial reefs in Martin County. For more information on Lionfish visit: www.McLionfish.com .
