The fall mullet run should be in full swing now with finger mullet in the river and on the beaches. The predatory fish are right on the heels of this run too. Fish the beaches for bluefish and Spanish mackerel. You’ll get action from sharks, snook, tarpon, jack crevalle and barracuda too. Head offshore in depths of 150 to 250 feet of water and high speed troll for wahoo and blackfin tuna around the full moon. Troll speeds of 10 to 16 knots for best results. Use skirted jet head lures in black/red, purple/black and blue/black for wahoo. Use the same colors in small two to three inch feathers for the tuna. There are still plenty of kingfish around too. They will be on the beaches following the mullet run and out to 90 feet. There has been a really good bite from mangrove snapper on the 60 and 90 foot depths both day and night.

A good tip during the mullet run is to use cut mullet underneath the schools of mullet where ever you find these mullet schools. What happens is that the bluefish and mackerel are cutting up these mullet and the smaller pieces are falling to the bottom for the snappers to feed on making this is a good month to catch some decent size mutton snappers along the beaches.
