[dropcap]H[/dropcap]opefully March will bring an end to the countless cold fronts, the high winds and rough seas. Fishing is fantastic this month. Once you clear the inlet, you might want to make a run south east to the Bethel Buoy. It’s about a 16 mile run at about 135 degrees. Bethel is famous for holding fish, both large and small. We’ll have our sabiki rigs ready to go as we approach. Large schools of sardines frequent the area and make a great bait for everything that swims. While catching bait, put one out on a stinger rig. Kingfish, dolphin and cobia will be on the list of possibilities. If you catch a bonito and want to have some fun, clip his tail and drop one down next to the buoy and hang on for dear life. Giant goliath grouper live there in big numbers. Once you’ve caught some bait, go due east for 2.6 miles and you will find some great ledges that hold quality snapper and grouper.

It was so rough in February that nobody found the large concentrations of manta rays. Look for them as you travel around. They’ll be holding cobia, if you’re lucky enough to find them.

Trolling for dolphin and sailfish is as good as it gets this month. Head out towards the Gulf Stream and look for weed lines, rips and temperature changes. Put your spread out and get ready for what should be some fast paced action. If you’re after kingfish, you have to stay in shallower water. Try the rocks in 50 to 90 foot for your best shot.
