[dropcap]G[/dropcap]ator trout will be on the flats and mangrove edges at first light and should be approached with stealth and long casts. Go with topwater plugs like Skitterwalks or Zara Spooks and walk the dog with short twitches to get you in the action. Switch over to D.O.A. soft bodied jigs once the sun comes up. Good colors this time of year are Gold/Glow #309 and Silver Mullet #407. Fan cast the pot holes and sandy edges for trout and redfish. Broken down older docks are ideal areas to approach with cast under and around the fish magnet. Methodically work it then move on to cover more water. Look for bait in the area and you will find the fish. Don’t forget to flip a shrimp near the channel markers in the Indian River for the tasty triple tail. Try fishing the docks on the St. Lucie side of Sewall’s Point with live bait such as greenies or pinfish for snook. You have to fish under the docks by flipping or drifting bait back under the wood. These snook are structure oriented and hold tight to the docks. Lock and load on the hook set and drag because there are some monsters hanging out. The sheepshead bite continues to be excellent around the St. Lucie Inlet and rocky edges in the channels. The bridges over the Indian River are holding black drum, snapper and find shrimp on a jig head irresistible. The last two hours of the incoming and first two hours of the outing have been best with cleaner water. Poke outside the inlet and run the beach looking for tarpon. Anticipate their swim pattern and shut down the engine. Deploy live baits on circle hooks and play the waiting game but when you hook up it will be worth the wait. Keep the waterways clean.
