[dropcap]I[/dropcap]t has been a very mild winter so far, but February will bring some cold fronts pushing through the Northern Bahamas, which will push the water temperature down further than it is now. As is typical for this time of the year, the bonefish will be seeking warmer water and be deeper in the water column. They will also be congregating near channels during the incoming tide to find warmer ocean water filtering over the flats. Catching the incoming tide in the afternoon is your best window. On sunny days, the bones will tend to move onto the flats that have been warmed by the sun looking for shrimp and crabs. You should have no trouble finding fish in the eight-to-ten range. February and March are great months for permit as well. You should be able to find fish easily in the 20-pound range. Barracuda are always a fun catch as well. If you are hoping for tarpon, you may want to fish along the marina basins in deeper water, there a plenty of them around. Nearshore reefs will produce just about all the snapper (lane, mutton and yellowtail) and grouper you will want for a tasty dinner or lunch. All you need is some cut bait (squid or conch) and you will have a great time. See you in Bimini soon.
