[dropcap]T[/dropcap]his month leave the wetsuit hanging up, pack the warm water wax and be ready for one of the country’s best surf months. As of mid-November water temps were actually warming up as we had a string of still, warm days. Somebody named a glorified thunderstorm ‘Kate,’ and between her and some fronts moving over the North Atlantic we had a few nice days of surf. November’s famous northeast winds were due a few days after I wrote this and that’s where this month gains on its predecessor. Less wind, and good amounts of small-to-medium swells characterize December. And yes, you should expect some cold snaps, but it will take a few before the water temp even drops below 80. Bring your board of choice for quality surf, you’ll most likely be using it a lot. Room in the board bag? Groveller or something with more volume always handy; this is the Bahamas, not Nicaragua! =) Junkanoo parades are held on many islands in the archipelago around Christmas and New Year’s Day; inquire when and where with the local Ministry of Tourism office. Nassau grouper season is closed from Dec. 1 to Feb. 29; legislation was officially passed recently in Parliament. So leave them groupers in their holes and shoot a lionfish! Tastes like chicken!
