Wind, Water & Waves – Bimini – July 2011

Wind, Water & Waves – July 2011

Welcome to the first wind, water and wave report from Bimini! We are now well into the 2011 summer season and the wind has been treating us well. With an average of three breezy days per week we have been out kite boarding the Bimini flats quite a lot and the weather for the coming month doesn’t look like it will change.

The summer season April through September is the rainy season here in Bimini and we generally get two to three breezy days for kite boarding. The wind generally blows from the east and south and will average 12- to-16 knots giving us some great kite boarding conditions for beginners and advanced riders, and the water temperature averages 80 degrees F so no need for a wetsuit.

With the arrival of the hurricane season, storms will build in the Caribbean and the swell will travel north giving Bimini some small but mellow waves to stand-up-paddle (SUP) surf.

For the rest of June and July if you are planning a trip to Bimini and you already kite board, then we recommend bringing your biggest kites to guarantee water time. If not, Bimini Kiteboarding has everything you might need.

If you own a paddleboard and travel to Bimini by boat, it is definitely worth bringing your board. Bimini has some amazing locations for stand-up-paddle boarding and July will give us lots of great paddle boarding days. If you don’t own a board, no worries- -Bimini Kiteboarding and Liquid Instinct have these available for you to rent on an hourly basis, or better yet, try one of our tours.
