Brevard Kayak Forecast – February 2013

So many have heard and I have gotten plenty of questions about the “Boondoggle” at Kars Park. To get all my readers the best information possible! I decided to go straight to the source and speak with the Boondoggle coordinator Mr. Charles (Redfish Chuck) Levi, Jr.

The boondoggle started as a way for like minded Kayak anglers to come together for fun and friendship. The web site yakangler.com and Kayak Fishing Radio (KFR) decided the best way to connect with their friends would be a party. Having been held in many locations from Charleston SC, Chokoloskee, and Virginia Beach this event has begun attracting kayak anglers from all over the country. Steadily increasing numbers and greater exposure to the kayak fishing industry has graced this event from the beginning.

When the decision was made for the boondoggle to revisit Florida with an eye on the space coast Redfish Chuck was ready. Chip Gibson the leader of the KFR pack was more than willing to let Chuck take the lead. The last boondoggle was held in VA. Beach and with attendance around a hundred people the event was larger than any other to date. Some speculated that they had reached the pinnacle and no other boondoggle could compare. This was off course a challenge to the soon to be organizer of the next event. The best and only place on the space coast to attempt such a gathering is naturally KARS Park. With plenty of room to host several hundred kayak fishing enthusiast and industry representatives. Not to mention the No-Motor-Zone and area lagoons will be a treat to many anglers from near and far. taking a big leap and stepping out of the small and mellow mode has not been an easy task and bringing together a list of swag from over 50 sponsors will only be relieved with a good party. Notice how I have not once mentioned a tournament! It’s because there isn’t one! This is not about betting each other on the water. It happens to be about meeting new friends, hanging with old friends, relaxing by the camp fire and even rubbing elbows with major industry people. I’m sure many fish will be caught, but good times are the focus. So get a campsite, check for the boondoggle on Facebook, or just stop by KARS president’s day weekend and hang out! In the words of Redfish Chuck, “It’s a Boondoggle.”
