Lake Jackson Fishing Report: April 2014

Jackson

If your looking for some freshwater action in or around Tallahassee, and want a double digit Largemouth, then Lake Jackson is the place to be in April. Lake Jackson is a typical Florida lake with clear water and plenty of vegetation. Sight fishing will rule this April, especially early April. With last month being a little colder than normal, the spring weather of April will be a welcomed change. The last moon in March and the full moon in April should provide plenty of opportunity to catch a big bass. For whatever reason, there is something to the moon phases having great effect on larger bass. If you’re not a “sight fisherman”, not to worry, simply fish your favorite way, but remember fish are going to be shallow for the most part.

As the month progresses and water temps reach the high 70 degree mark, you might want to break out the “Frog”. That’s right! Topwater action could dominate the latter part of this month’s catching patterns. This type of fishing requires some heavy duty equipment including a stout rod, braided line, a high speed reel, and extra heavy hooks. Anyone who has fished these top water frog baits knows there’s almost no fishing easier or more exciting than this. Wait until you have a blow up on your frog that looks like an alligator after a bird! And if you’re not paying attention, it will certainly get your attention and fill your stomach with excitement.

Well that about does it for April, so until next time, be safe, have fun and ALWAYS wear a life jacket while boating!
