At the time of this writing, and due to recent rains, Lake Seminole is at full pool, and with the rainy and cloudy conditions, has dropped the water temperature down several degrees which has the big bass looking up and feeding on the surface. On recent trips we have had some explosive strikes on a variety of top-water lures like buzz-baits and frogs.

The grass is healthy and is growing fast in areas that were devastated from hurricane Michael this past October. As we move into August, a variety of lures should continue to produce. A buzz-bait is a great top-water lure to efficiently cover water and find active areas along the grass lines. My favorite is a 3/8 oz. Strike King Pro model buzz-bait in white. This lure has an extremely sharp hook and a unique sound that drives the bass crazy! Hollow body frogs have been producing for our customers all summer. There are a lot of hollow body frogs on the market. My favorite is a Spro Bronzeye 65 for its durability and action. It’d equipped with a 2x strong Gamakatsu EWG Double Frog Hook that can stand up to a big rod and heavy braided line; which is exactly what you need to get big bass out of the grass. I also recommend Cortland Master Braid because it stays true maintaining its strength, low stretch and color, cast after cast and day after day on the water.

Bream fishing has been great this summer, with some bream still bedding and being caught on red wigglers and pitching crickets along the grass lines on the Flint and Chattahoochee River arms of the lake. We have seen many limits brought to the docks at Mac’s Point Lodge and Marina, formerly known as Wingate’s Lunker Lodge.
